You keep your work

The article stays yours. You are giving us permission to publish it — not ownership of it, and not exclusivity.

What you are giving us permission to do

• Publish the article on this website, with your name and a link to your profile.
• Reprint it, in whole or in part, in our newsletter. This matters: the newsletter is how the site brings people back, and an article we cannot put in it does half a job.
• Edit it for length, clarity, spelling and house style. Not for meaning.
• Keep it online for as long as it is useful.

You can publish it elsewhere too

The licence is non-exclusive. After it has been live here for thirty days, you may republish it on your own website or anywhere else you like. We ask one thing: add a canonical link back to the version here, so search engines know which came first and neither copy competes with the other.

What we ask of you

• The words are yours. Not copied, not generated and passed off as written, and not somebody else's work with the sentences moved around.
• You have the right to any images you send. A photograph of a client's dog needs that client's permission.
• The advice is yours to give. If it is the kind of advice that needs a qualification, you hold one — and the directory is where we check that.

What we can refuse, and how

A moderator reads every article before it goes up, and there are two answers rather than one. Request revision sends it back with a reason and you can send it again as many times as you like. Reject is final and also carries a reason. We do not delete a rejected article — it stays in your account, and it stays yours.

If you close your account later

We ask at the moment you submit, rather than deciding for you years afterwards. You choose one of two things:

• Keep it up. The article stays, and the byline becomes Puppy Training Tips. Your name comes off it, because your name goes with your account.
• Take it down. The article goes when you do.

Either way, nothing about you is kept. Your name is read from your profile rather than copied onto the article, so when the profile goes there is nothing left behind to delete.

Money

There is none, and we would rather say so plainly than dress it up. You are paid in exposure: your name on the article, a link to your profile, your businesses beside it, and a place in the newsletter. The directory is free to be listed in.

Changes to these terms

Every article records the version of these terms that was in force when it was submitted. If we change them, the change applies to what you send afterwards — never retrospectively to what you have already given us.
